Kids Create the Darndest Things

My college-aged son Dan and his friend Tom have a band called The Dart Throwing Bartenders. At least once a year, they get together in our basement and write a few songs. The music is eclectic and serves almost no purpose except to make them, and us, laugh hysterically.

And so, because I like to share, I proudly present the new musical from the Dart Throwing Bartenders – 5 Floors of Cash – music inspired by the movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

If you haven’t seen the movie, much of this won’t make sense. On the other hand, it’s a fun "poke" at musicals and it was written and recorded all in one week. (Oh and it's definitely G-rated, in case you were concerned.)

Here’s a list of the songs, although they’re all combined on one track:

MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

KID ALONE ON CHRISTMAS

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS IN THE TRENCHES

DEAR MR. DUNCAN

STRONGER, BRAVER*

WELCOME TO NEW YORK

NOT ALONE ON CHRISTMAS

*My daughter is the female vocalist which gives me a glimmer of hope that one day my two kids might be able to get along.

Hope you enjoy 5 Floors of Cash! Oh and if you like it, feel free to send other people here to visit. Yeah, I'm that way. I'm a mom.

Michele sent me to say that I'd love to listen to the music: but I'm off to the beach in the morning and have to pack tonight: so I'm going to come back in a week and listen then. Don't take it down in the meantime, please! The titles look fun, and I hope that the kids end up getting along (as indeed I wish for my Boo and Skibo, 4 and 3 respectively!)

Best,
N.

Karen: I'm devastated! I clicked on it and it enlarged in a new window, then nothing. I've tried and tried.
Oddly enough I have just been sitting in my son's car so he could play me a guitar solo he had just done. He's 48! Here from Michele's.

WOW.... amazing stuff! So funny, but more impressive is the musicality and talent of all the musicians and vocalists. You *should* be very proud.

Did they perform this live, before an audience, or was the applause just put in there for comic effect?

Thanks for sharing. I hope others will take the time to listen, rather then just do the "post and run".

Here via michele today and it's been too long!

Hi Karen. I must tell you that I've been listening to this non-stop for the last two hours. Your kids are, quite plainly, gifted in the arts of music and verse.

I hope you're having a good end-of-summer. I had a bit of breathing room workwise today, so I thought I'd visit a few of my favorite blog-people.
